La Puerta de Esperanza means “The Door of Hope.” It is a non-profit organization/ministry that is directed by Carol Gray and is focused on helping young Hispanic school children and their mothers assimilate into the community. There are some African- American children who are assisted as well.

“Two summers ago, I volunteered at La Puerta and realized how few books the ‘library’ at La Puerta had. The few books they did have were either out-dated or in poor condition. This past summer, I spoke with the director, Carol Gray, and she said that the greatest need for the ministry is to increase the literacy of the Hispanic children under her care.”– Bethany Mlinar Emerald High School Interact President
